LAND BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Taranaki Land Hoard mot last week, present Messrs ileslop, Rattenbury, Kennedy ami Al'Ciuggage. In the absence of the Commissioner, Mr F. Simpson, through illness, Mr Heslop was voted to the chair. TRANSFERS. Transfers were agreed to as follows :—E. J. Smith to C. J. E. Grebel, section (5, block Hi, Aria; J. Christensen to T. Mackinrler, section 14, block 15, Aria; H. Lett to H. Campbell, sections 1 and 1, blocks 8 and 7, Mimi; T. A. O'Brien to E. J. Bennett and E. A. Williams, section 13, block 3, Ohura; J. W. Murphy to T. O'Brien, section 27, block 14, Ohura; W. Towgood to W. H. Towgood, section 7, block 16, Ohura; Joseph Wilks to C. R. Caverhill, sections 2 and 3, block 10, Kapara; J. Dowbrowski to J. Paroy, sections 7, S, 9, 10, 11, block 16, Egmont; P. H. Saxon to H. R. Harrison, sections 5, 6, and 7, block 3, Ngatimaru; M. M'Guinness to J. Bone, section 1, block 7, Upper Waitara; D. R. Hight to New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency, part sections 74 and 76, block 14, Ponatu; D. Watkin to Trustees Primitive Methodist Church, part section 27 and 28, block 9, Ngatimaru; W. Schneider to Lawrence Smith, part section 6, block 2, Mahoe. The transfer of T. R. Lucas to A. Paulger, section 6, block 11, Cape, was approved, subject to certain conditions. The application of J. W. Watt to transfer to A. Leedon, section 12, block 5, Egmont, was approved, provided everything is satisfactory. J. Ayrton to S. Jarvis, section 2, block 7, Warea, was similarly dealt with.
It was decided to give consent to | proposed transfer of A. L. Chard to j J. 11. Slight, provided all necessary i improvements are complete within j twelve months from June 1, 1911. The transfer of Donds and Mallett { to A. E. Speck, section 5, block 10, Upper Waitara, was approved, subject to residence having been complied with. Applications were made for extension of time to register the following transfers:—G. J. Haggie to E. B. Gothard, section 10, block 13, Ohura; J. lekirka to E. Townsend, section 5, block 9, Totora; R. Johnson to W. J. and F. W. Simpson, section 34, block 2, Omona.—Three months' extension j granted. SUB-LEASES. The following sub-leases were ; passed:—J. Jasper to O. H. Currie, l section 24, block 2, Ohura; Jas. i Rooney to R. H. Phillips, section 25 ' and 26, block 9, Ngatimaru; Thos. Henry to J. E. Young, sections 1 and | 2, block 4, Omona; W. H. Stockley. ! sub-section 1, section 32, block 6, Ngatimaru. THE FREEHOLD. Mr P. O'Dea solicitor, applied on behalf of F. J. and M. Kelly to freehold of section 3, block 11, Omona, ' and T. R. Mnunsey applied to con- ' vert section 2, block 16, Ngatimaru ! to freehold.—Both applications were ! approved. ; The New Zealand Loan and Meri cantile Agency Co., Ltd., applied for the freehold of part-section 74, block 14, Pouatu, being transferred from D. R. Hight.—lt was resolved that Mr H. T. Twiss, Crown Lands ranger, be the appraiser for valuation of the fee simple. "THIRDS." Mr H. T. Twiss, Crown Lands rani ger, reported on proposals of the i Okato Road Board for expenditure of ' "thirds" from sections 4 and 5, block ill, Cape.—Adopted. The Whangamomona County Council submitted proposals fur the expenditure of "thirds" amounting to £BB 16s 9d from section 2, block 15, Pouatu.—Approved. The application of the Whangamomona County Council for "thirds" i from Mangare Road Loan area, to be pledged in payment of interest on loan was deferred for further considera- ! tion. Mr E. Tolme, Crown Lands ranger, reported on the proposals of the Waitomo County Council for expenditure of "thirds" amounting to £252 4s 9d. '. It was resolved that the proposals for metalling Mokau-Ohura Road be approved, the remainder of the proposals to be referred to the county for further consideration. HALL SITE. Mr Tolme reported on the application of Kaeaea settlers for part section 10, block 2, Aria, for a hall site, and it was resolved that upon the necessary survey being made at the , expense of the settlers interested an : acre be disposed of at a valuation of £2. GENERAL. It was resolved to offer by public auction part Aria township reserve for a lease of live years. The L'nder-secretary for Lands wrote tbat the necessary reserves for township and sci-nery be cut out of section -J, block J 6, Ohura, as soon as possible, and that balance of sections be handed over to Wanganui River Trust. He also stated that there was no power to grant J. M'Donald's applications for section. The Commissioner submitted the matter of difference in consideration in application and deed of transfer J. Robinson to W. Sangster, section 14, block 9, Totoro.- Agreed to. G. E. Spanner wrote withdrawing his application to transfer section 5, block 3 Aria, to R. D. Kerr and C. 11. Kerr, the agreement for same having been cancelled by mutual consent.— Withdrawal agreed to. R. G. Fawkner applied for lease of sections 37, 3S, 39, and 42, block 3, Whangamomona township.--It was resolved to grant a year tenancy subject to termination by three months' notice. C. S. Raby applied to purchase 11 ' acres of section 5, block 13, Waro, at i present held by him under a temper-
ary tenancy.—Resolved to obtain rario-er's r;nort on the advisability oc adding the land to the education reserve as a homestead site. A. M. and K. Tovey applied for permission to sub-divid- section 2, block 2, Ohura, into two areas of 3SI acres and -150 aeres respectively.—Approved suhjeet to specified conditions. It was decided to make inquiries as to whether it was necessary that_ a permanent stock reserve as applied for by the Ohura County Council was necessary in this locality. It was decided to dispose of partsection 8, block 7, Waro, to A. Hagensen under section 129 of the Land Act, 1908, at a price of £2 per acre. The Stratford County Council wrote asking that the board would clear the creek on section 30, block 11, Ngatimaru, near Iluiroa township.—Resolved that the ranger's report bs obtained. The question of disposal of section 67, block 10. Mimi, to Crown under Native Land Act. 1909, was deferred. It was decided to offer under part 3 of the Land Act, 1908, runs 2 and 12, Opaku, possession of which had been resumed by the Crown. INSPECTIONS OF HOLDINGS. E. Tolme, Crown Lands ranger, re ported on the inspection of four holdings. The improvements required amounted to the value of £2041, and those effected to £2899. One settler had not effected sufficient improvements. H. T. Twiss, Crown Lands ranger reported on the inspection of fourteen holdings; improvements required £4629, effected £8876 Two settlers were in default for residence. The board decided to send notice to those who had not complied with the Act. TRANSFERS OF EDUCATION LEASES. The following transfers of Education leases were approved upon the usual conditions:--Section 105, block 2, Ngaere, A. T. Fischer to G. Sangster; sections 564-5, 590-1, 817, and S2l-2, New Plymouth, T. M. Higgie to M. E. Smith; section 64a, block 1, Ngaere, Ephraim Jenkin to Archibald Hazelton; section 30, block 10, Huiroa, Alexander Brown to H. E. Gray. Several other applications for transfers were deferred for further particulars, and a similar course was taken with a sublease. A sub-lease of sections 36 and 41, block 6, Ngatimaru, from W. H. Wallace to A. J. and W. H. Stockley was approved on the usual conditions. NON-COMPLIANCE WITH CONDITIONS. Action was taken as stated with regard to the following selectors who had not fullfilled the conditions of selection: W. Hooks, section 2, block 2, Piopiotea W , non-residence, forfeiture appealed against, decided that, the selector being now resident the forfeiture be rescinded; R. H. Julian, section 7, block 11, Cape, non-resi-dence, decided that reason given be accepted, and two months' extension be granted; C. V. Shaw, section 8, block 11, Cape, non-residence, the selector waited on the board and explained his reason for npn-residence, which explanation was accepted, but residence to be taken up within three months. MISCELLANEOUS. R. Glentworth waited on the board with reference to taking his wife and family on to section 25, block 1, Tangitu. Consideration deferred until next meeting. The board decided to affix its consent to the necessary documents in connection with deviation of a road through section 25, Hua and Waiwakaiho, provided everything was in order. The question of the up3et values of sections 1, 2, and 3, block 2, Totoro, held by Archie M'lntyre, Angus M'lntyre, and A. Sangster, was deferred for further inquiry. J. E. W. Henchman applied for six months' leave of absence from section 55, block 4, Paritutu, Spotswood Settlement, to enable him to seek work. Resolved that the request be granted in terms of applicant's letter. Walker and Peak, solicitors, wrote asking for protection of mortgagee's interest in section 1, block 2, Piopiotea, lately held by A. J. Whittaker.— Resolved to inform the writers that interests would be conserved to the extent allowed by law. The Auckland Education Board applied for the setting aside of partsection 12, block 4, Toroto, scenery reserve, as a site for the Mapara school, in place of other sites chosen in the settlement.—The request was granted, an area of 5 acres being set aside for the purpose. The Commissioner laid before the board the matter of arbitration fees on section 9, block 5, Ohura. The freehold of this section had been applied of or. March 21, 1910, but the contract had not been completed.—lt was resolved that £5 5s be refunded in the circumstances.
