COUNTY MATTERS.
To The Editor. Sir, —Lest innocent people—l speak not of the knowing ones —in Kawhia and Awakino be led astray as to the importance of a meeting held in the hall, Marakopa, on Sunday, the 16th inst., let me state emphatically that it was in nowise a representative meeting, few people attending, nine or ten only being present—those who could jump into their canoes and paddle down as an after-dinner exercise. Little interest was taken in the proceedings by sensible persons, who wisely found urgent private affairs to attend to elsewhere. "To keep holy the Sabbath Day," is becoming unknown to some in Marakopa. Who, what person, would care to spend a Sunday afternoon in a stuffy, tin-covered building, listening to the nonsense put forth by some conceited little stump orator, whose knowledge of geography and politics, to say the least of them, is mixed? "I merely mention these things in a general way," as the self-made merchant said to his son. As for the seekers after place, le.t me assure them thai, if we can prevent it, they shall in nowise obtain their hearts' desire. — I am, etc., AWAKINO.
