LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS.

The Rev. R. Mitchell left Te Kuiti for the Bay of Islands on Monday. Mr J. R. Graham has an interesting replace in our advertising columns to-day. The population of Te Kuiti borough, as roughly ascertained at the recent census, is just over 1500. Mr W. T. Jennings, M.P., passed through Te Kuiti on his way to Tailmarunui on Monday. He had greatly enjoyed his trip to the Tauranga dis triet. The Rev. E. S. Wayne, left for Auckland on Monday, where he attended the consecration of the new Bishop of Auckland, at St. Mary's Cathedral, yesterday. The only person present when the school committee was due to be elected on Monday night was a press representative. He walked round the school building, noticed the smell of fresh paint and the deserted air, and came away again. The waste of time waiting for the sorting of the incoming mails at Te Kuiti is noticeable every afternoon. In the big centres inward stamping of correspondence has been abolished, and it is sorted direct to the boxes. Why not at Te Kuiti? Mr J. R. Graham has a notification in to-day's issue of Mrs Hodgson's unreserved clearing sale, on Thursday, at 2 p.m., at her residence, Taupiri street, nearly opposite"RookHwood." Particulars in handbills. Polling for the new Borough Council and the loan proposals is being taken to-day. "Nothing doing" about expresses the position up to noon, but it is to be hoped ratepayers and householuders will show their appreciation of the past work of the Council by voting in large numbers before 7 p.m.
