Mangapeehi.

Bright, sunny weather, with a sharp tinge of cold o'night, still continues to be the order of the day locally. Thi3 is the longest and drvest summer we have experienced, practically one day's rain having fallen since December ISth of last year. The supply of water .for household purposes remains in a very critical state. On Saturday last, a combined Kangaroa ani Taumarunui tennis team came to try conclusions with the Mangapehi team on the latter's court. The players were favoured with an ideal day for tennis—crisp and clear. The visitors, six in all, were entertained to morning and afternoon tea, and to luncheon at Mr Butler's boarding house. They expressed themselves as delighted with the enjoyab'e day spent. The match resulted in rather an easy win for the local team, as they won eight out of the ten matches played, scoring 83 games against their opponents 38. A return match is likely at an early date. Following are details of the play, Mangapehi names appearing first in each case Ladies' singles: Miss W. Johnson v. Miss Harper, 9—l; Miss Tomlinson v. Miss Mayenberg 9—4; Miss McCracken v. Mrs Ward 9—4. Men's singles: Mr A. E. McCracken v. Mr Ross 5—9; Mr B. W. Hayson v. Mr Gray 9—5; Mr W. Buck v. Mr McVilly 9—o. Ladies' doubles: Miss Tomlinson and Miss McCracken v.
