THE LAND BOARD.

The Auckland Land Board holds its first regular sitting in Te Kuiti today. This important visit is the beginning of a new state of things for the King Country generally. The intention o£ the Board is to make itself conversant with the district and the wants of settlers generally, and enable the latter, without going to the considerable expense of visiting Auckland, to meet the Board and discuss their grievances and requirements. The area under particular consideration stretches from the Mokau river northwards to the Kawhia harbour, and takes in Te Kuiti and adjacent districts. Within that district are several large area 3 of Crown lands, many of them lying close to unoccupied native lands. Settlers will doubtless bring this matter before the Board, and point to the undoubted hardships they suffer in having unoccupied Crown lairJs growing crops of noxious weedj nest doov to their holdings We also have Fome important Improved Farm settlements near Otorohanga, and the conditions under which they are worked by the holders will be brought under the notice of the Board. In Mr Bert. Jordan, the Crown Lands Ranger, the Board has an efficient otticer, whose sympathies are always with the settler struggling to make ends meet. The Board meets twice a year in Te Kuiti, the next Bitting being on December 14th, and the result of these friendly conferences between members and settlers will be productive of much good.
