A representative of the Kaiteke settlers waited upon the Mayor of Taumarunui (Mr G. H. Thompson) last week, asking him'to allow himself to be nominated for the Taumarunui seat. Mr Thompson, in reply, stated that he thought it would be advisable to wait until the boundary commissioners had completed their work before making any definite promise or arrangements. With this view the representative from Kaiteke quite agreed. An Australian society is being organised in London for social purposes under the patronage of Sir Geo. H- Reid, the Agent-General, and other influential Austalians. M McCall, Agent-General for Tasmania, asked the Colonial Institute to establish an Australian section, meeting monthly, with a view to inviting Austalians just arrived to discuss Australian topics, in which they are specially versed, bringing Australians in London in touch with events in Australia.
