"MAPARA."
To The Editor. Sir,—The settlers at the Pio Pio end of this block complain, and justly so, at the treatment they are receiving at the hands of the Public Works Department, regarding their bridge on Kahuwera road. The money has been available now for some time, tenders were to close for its erection on the 28th February last, but so far no steps have been taken, and nobody seems to know, whether the contract has been let or not. So far, we've helped ourselves, by putting up footbridges, making fords and tracks at our own expense, but now that there is no reasonable excuse, it behoves the department to get a "wriggle on" and get the work in hand straight away. If delayed much longer, it will mean a flying machine or some similar means of transit this coming winter. The settlers at the Te Kuiti end of the block have had two bridges, while we have been waiting patiently our turn. Somehow, we don't seem to be of the "chosen few." We are stiil waiting, and hoping; but in the meantime we will make ourselves heard. Hoping you will help us to do so, and thanking you in anticipation, —I am etc., R. JOHNSON. Mapara, Ist April, 1911.
