The Farmers' Auctioneering Co. ivport,:- - .At the opening sale of the Oterohnnga Saloytnds' Company's new ' yards on Thursday we yarded 420 head of cattle and 1000 sheep. There was a large attendance, hut practically no buyers, and bidding was dull from start, to finish. Two year steers £4 3s to £4 ss, IS month steers £3 14s fresh empty cows £3 15s to £4 j 17s 6d, store cows £2 17a 6d to £3 ss, j fat cows £6, 2h year heifers in calf £4 Sa, small calves 16s; practically no sheep were sold. At Matiere (Ohura), on March 2Sth, we had a yarding of 823 cattle, and 3440 sheep. There was a really good inquiry for cattle, and full Waikato rates were offered, but most of the cattle remained unsold, sellers having an exalted idea of values. Sheep were dull of sale, and not half of the entrychanged. Prices: 2* to 3 year steers £5 5s to £6, 2* year dairy heifers in calf £4 14s, 18 month steers £3 5s to £3 12s, fat and forward cows £4 12s (3d to £5 15s, small fat steers £(5 10s, well grown 2 tooth ewes 15s, forward 2 tooth wethers 13s to 13s Gd, good | sound ewes 6 and 8 tooth 12s, aged but sound ewes 7s 6d to 9s 3d. At Ngarauwahia on Wednesday we held a supplementary cattle and sheep sale. The yarding consisted of 10,007 sheep and 623 cattle. Buyers were present for all classes of cattle, wethers and good sound breeding ewes, and good prices were obtained. Lambs were hard to sell and to anybody that can hold this class of stock for two or three months, there is fully 100 per cent, profit. Practically the whole entry of cattle was sold under the hammer, and with the exception of 2050 sheep (three owners' lots) all sheep sold at auction. At Cambridge on Friday the entry was small, fat and forward woolly j lambs 7s 6d to 9s, medium store lambs ] 6s to 6s 6d, fresh aged ewes 7s 9d, j fat cows £5 15s to £6 17s Gd, small j killable steers £6 10s, springing cows i near profit £7 10s, good calves 35s to 41s, smaller sorts 25s to 30s. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At Te Kuiti on Wednesday we yarded 673 cattle and 5300 sheep. • Bidding was rather dull, but nearly ' all lines were quitted at auction or j afterwards. Prices: 2h to 3i year j steers £5 2s Gd, 2\ year steers £4 7s j Gd to £4 15s, 2 year steers £3 15s to \ £4, 20 month steers £3 to £3 ss, j empty cows £3 4s to £3 19s, fat cows ! £5, 2b year heifers in calf £4 17s 6d, i 18 month empty heifers £2 17s, calves ' £1 14s to £2 2s 6d, 2, 4 and 6 tooth | ewes 9s 9d to 13s, choice 4 tooth ewes j 16s, f.m. ewes 6s to 9s 4d, shorn ! lambs 4s 7d to 5s 6d, 2 tooth wethers ! 10s to lis 6d, fat wethers 14s 6d. '
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their first combined sale in the new saleyards at Otorohanga on Thursday, 30th inst. There was a very large yarding of both cattle and sheep, the cattle yards being unable to accommodate the number which came forward. There was a big attendance of settlers and buyers from all parts of the surrounding districts and prices ruled on a par with other markets. We yarded some 150 cattle and 700 sheep, all of which we cleared with the exception of a pen of heifers in calf, and two lines of ewes and lambs. Prices: Forward bullocks £4 16s to £6 6s, fat cows £6 7s 6d, IS month to 2 year steers £2 10s to £3 16s, calves 20s to 27s 6d, store wethers lis 9d to 13s, old ewes 5s 3d.
