The Maheno encountered a heavy south-west gale at its height at midnight, and then struck a tremendous sea, which damaged the deck fittings, smashed a dozen cabin windows and flooded the smoking room, social hali and alleyway. Passengers were knee deep in water. A family of three, a man, a woman and a child, were rather severely cut by falilng glass. Received April 1, 9.15 a.m. Sydney, This day. Only six of the Maheno's cabin winows were smashed. A wave unexpectedly broke high over the promenade deck, and crashed dow r n with great force. The experience was exciting while it lasted
