Ohakune's application to be made a borough has proved abortive. The Commissioner (Mr W. Kerr) has reported to the Governor that he has no recommendation to make. At the last meeting of the Kawhia County Council the chairman reported that several Awakino settlers had approached him with a view to opening the road sufficiently for vehicular traffic, particularly in view of the dairy business. He had suggested waiting until the whole of the money already voted was expended before asking the Minister for Public Works for a grant to complete the road right through to the Awakino County from Kinobaku. He asked the Council to agree to the Engineer being instructed to form an approximate of the probable amount necessary. This was agreed to. With regard to the Marakopa Valley vote, on the motion of the Chairman, the Clerk was instructed to write to the Minister for Public Works to ask that the grant for the Marakopa Valley road be handed over to the Council.
