HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. ! Wellington, Monday. ! The High Commissioner's cable of ! March ISth, is as follows:—■ Mutton. —The market is quiet, with 1 a tendency in favour of buyers. Canterbury, o;, : d ; North Island, ojid ; Australia.!!, 2:,' d; River Plate, 2~d. Lamb.--The market is dull, with dull sale for all lamb. Canterbury, ,sid; other than Canterbury, | Australian, o\ ; d; River Plate o£d. i Beef. Tne market is iirm, with j more inquiry. Stocks of New Zea- | land beef on hand are light. New ■Zealand, hindquarters, 3&d; fores, ■ 3 id. j Butter.—The market is quiet, but firm for best quality. Choicest New Zealand, 106s; Australian, 102s; Danish, 120s; Siberian, 104s. Cheese. —The market is firm in general, and there is an active demand. White, 60s; coloured, 60s. Wool.--The market remains firm, and competition is well sustained. Pork.—The market is weaker, though not actually lower, to-day's quotation being s}d.
STOCK SALES. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: — At Ngaruawahia on 10th inst., we held a sale of sheep and cattle, for which a large entry came forward. The sheep all sold with the exception of one line of lambs and one line of ewes and cattle, at advanced prices. Prices: 4 tooth wethers 14s to 16s, 2 tooth do. 10s 6d to 13s, 2, 4 and 6 tooth ewes 12s to 15s 2d, f.m. ewes 6s to 9s 9d, store lambs 5s 7d to-is 9d, E.L. rams 21s, fat cows £4 17s to £6 ss, 2 to 2k year steers £4 to £4 15s, 18 months do. £3 15s, calves 29s to 06s, dairy cows up to £7 15s. On 11th inst. we held a clearing sale near Taupiri on account of Mr Stanley Bell. Dairy cows in milk made from £6 10s to £8 15s for Jerseys, others £4 17s 6d to £6, Jersey heifers been with bull £9 5s to £ll 15s, yearling do. £4 17s Gd, calves 30s, light harness horses £9 10s to £ll 10s.
At Pirongia on loth inst. a fair entry was submitted. Prices: Fat cows £5 os to £5 17s, empty cows in fresh condition £3 6s to £3 15s, calves 31s to 395, 18 months to 2 year steers £3 13s tu £4. Eight hundred and forty head of cattle were yarded at Ohaupo on 14th inst., steers with condition and empty fresh cows were wanted, but calves were very dull of sale, and nearly all failed to reach reserves. Three year steers made £5 2s 6d to £5 ss, 15 to 18 months steers £2 18s to £3 10s, cows in fresh and forward condition £3 to £4 2s Gd, fat cows £5 to £5 6s, dairy .cows £7 to £9, springing heifers £1 17s Gd to £5 7s (sd. On 16th inst. we held a sale of carting plant at Te Kuiti, 011 account of Mr V. S. Hattaway, who is giving up business. There was a good attendance oi buyers and brisk competition throughout, everything realising satisfactory prices. Active waggon horses made from £23 to £3O, heavier sorts, fit for any work £32 10s to £37 10s, timber waggons £2B 10s to £3O, light waggons £l4 to £lB, drays £l2 10s to £l4. harness, etc., at good prices. At Hamilton on the same day we yarded 94 fat cattle, a fair entry of stores also sheep and pigs. Prices: Fat cows £5 5s to £G 12s, fat heifers £4 15s to £5 14s, 18 months steers £3 9a, calves 31s to 38s, fat ewes 12s, store ewes 9s 3d, porkers 33s to 345, weaners 4s to Bs.
