NUISANCE NO. 2.
To the Editor. Sir, —In continuation of my previous communication, there is another nuisance afflicting this "city," which may be summed up in our word —dogs. Anyone who keeps late hours, rightly or wrongly, or wanders after dark about the town, cannot fail to run against —or over--~a great variety of these animals, called, mostly by courtesy, dogs. Unfortunately, the Impounding Act does not embrace dogs, so that there appears no remedy, and they may have owners or no, bat its a moot point. .And the nuisance culminates on sale days— large numbers of farmers and settlers attend accompanied by one, two or three dog-!, whether their services are required or not. Imagine the pandemonium, where all are quarrelling and fighting, until their owners think fit to take them home. Frequently, they leave their animals tied up, perhaps till a day or two after the sale. There is a section opposite the Public Hall, of which the ownership appears to be unsettled, and on which the dilapidated remains of a shed stands, and here sometimes can be seen a dozen or more dogs tied up, without food or water, making night and day (especially the former) unbearable with their yappings and howlings. No notice appears to be taken by any local authority, and I venture to think this is another of the matters which our local body might attend to and regulate.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER.
