COUNTRY NEWS.

Ohura. On Saturday evening last Messrs Louis Robertson, the champion light and middle-weight wrestler of New Zealand and Scotland, and Jos Prechner, ex-light-weight champion, gave a splendid exhibition of wrestling in the Ohura Town Hall. There was a crowded and enthusiastic audience, who fully appreciated the various events of the evening's programme. Both men were in the "pink" of condition and in a bcut of thirty minutes' duration, during which no fall was obtained, gave their audience an excellent display of the various scientific methods employed in modern wrestling. It speaks well for the enterprise of the sporting community of the Ohura that the services of two such good exponents have been retained for the gymnastic club during the coming season. Already a large wrestling class is in full swing, under Mr Robertson's superintendence, and shows promise of turning out some excellent material. Of this latter the brothers Rogers, of Tatu, and Jeff Hill, of Mangaroa, gave some highly creditable items. The evening's entertainment included amongst other things an exhibition of physical culture and ju-jitsu by Messrs Robertson and Prechner, the items being interesting and pupular. The concluding event was a wrestling bout between Robertson and Murray Urquhart, of Stratford, who came in specially for the occasion, the former undertaking to obtain a fall from Urquhart within ten minutes. This was necessarily a most exciting struggle, the amateur champion of Taranaki holding out for sixteen minutes, when Robertson obtained a fall by the scissors-and-arm-lock amidst sustained cheering. For his splendid and able defence Mr Robertson presented him with a g<.ld medal as a token of his appreciation. Dr Latchmore officiated as referee. Th 6 proceeds of the evening's entertanment were, by the courtesy of Messrs Robertson and Prechner, devoted to the Town Hall fund, and resulted in a substantial sum being handed over to the treasurer.
