King Country Chronicle Wednesday, January 25, 1911. TOPICS OF THE DAY.
| * ! The interview with Colonel V, oite, I the officer commanding the Auckland ! district, which we publish in another ' column, will serve a useful purpose if it draws prominent attention to the advantages oc voluntarily joining the territorial forces, instead of waiting until compnlsor'ily drafted into the general training section. Briefly stated, the advantages are these: The territorial forces are uniformed: they are divided into a proper military organisation and the training is much more effective: the men are paid four shillings a day and upwards: and, what appeals to employers and men , alike, the period oE training is considerably shorter. The desirability of joiiitng the territorial forces is : thus very o'lvious. In all probability Te Kuiti will L-> the centre for the battalion in this distrV-t and with a loyal, hearty, co-operative spirit amongst our young men, it should i~t be difficult to bring the battalion ip to the maximum standard of efiiciemv.
