MEETING OF HAPUIcUA SETTLERS. A meeting of the seilim; resident along the Hapurua road was held at the beginning of the week. Mr W. Grant Far»ey presided. It was also resolved that in the opinion of the meeting the time had arrived when the rating in the Country should be carried out on the basis of the unimproved value instead of as at present, the improved value. This matter was also discussed by the Farmers' Union on Saturday, and was sympathetically received. Petitions are being signed by ratepayers to the effect and those in charge are confident of obtaining the necessary number of signatures after which when the usual formalities have been gone through a poll will be taken.
