HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.

MEETING IN TE KUITI. The meeting convened by Mr F. U. I Sims (chairman of Te Kuiti Chamber | of Commerce) for the purpose of dej ciding upon what day the weekly halfi holiday should b? observed, was held | in the "Chronicle" office on Wedncs- | day evening last. A larere number of i those interested were present. Mr Sims was voted to the chair and exI plained the reason for which ha had convened the meeting. Mr Larritt moved and Mr Darrow seconded, that the statutory halfholiday be observed on Saturday afternoons. As an amendment, Mr Doolcy moved and Mr Rosenberg seconded that the half-holiday be observed on Thursday as at present. The chairman then called for general discussion upon the matter. A large number gave their views upon the question, for and against the present half-holiday, and after general discussion the amendment was put to the meeting, thirteen voting for it. Upon the original motion being put, the same number of votei were recorded in its favour. The voting being even it was decided that requisitions be taken round and the names of all those for or against a change, be recorded, the requisitions to be forwarded to the Borough Council without delay. The meeting closed with the customary compliment to the chair.
