GREAT GALES AT SEA.

A BARQUE IN DANGER. [by tklk'.;e.vvh.—association.] Wellington, This Day. The captain of the steamer Kaipara yesterday reported to the Marine Department that a three-masted iron barque, about 900 tons register, was standing in danger towards Palliser Bay, which has an unwholesome record for wrecks. The Kaipara tried to signal her, but the flags were blown to shreds by the south-westerly gale prevailing. The Government steamer Hinemoa left at 7.30, but owing to heavy seas had to anchor in Worser Bay. She will proceed as soon as

possible. Among the barques now due are the Triton from Oamaru, Helen from Timaru, and Helen Denny from Newcastle.
