TE KUITI BOWLING AND CROQUET CLUB.
- - NOTES i;v "KITTY." Bowling competitions have boon practically hold over during the holidays, hut I have no doubt that members will make up for lost lime and complete their sections before the end of the present month. On Boxitig Day and the day following two very enjoyable pairs tournament s were held. Play began each day at 1U o'clock and by playing fourteen head games the sections of live games each were completed in good time. On the first day Spencer and Darrow put up a good performance by winning al! five games and they were closely followed by Power and Lissaman with one loss each. On the second c'ay a fresh draw was made and the winners turned up in Rosenberg and Petherick, who lost only one
game. Each player is entitled to a trophy of the value of 15s, the trophies to be presented to the respective winners at the annual smoke concert j which will be held late in the season. | Little functions of this kind are just | what is needed, to show the younger I bowlers, at least, the value of the I social element in this ever popular j game. Much interest was centred in the Open Tournament held at Te Aroha at New Year because of the fact that two local teams were taking part. The respective teams were —Spencer, Matthew, Cochrane, Power (skip), and Porter, Stevens, Hitchcock, Dransfield (skip). Power's team won three games, lost one, and drew one, and with a total of 3£ points were second in their section. Dransfield's team won three and lost two games, and were also second in their section. On the whole this was a creditable performance for the initial try for 1 honours, more particularly on the ! part of Dransiiekl's team which mani aged to down the St. John's No. 1 i team from Wanganui, by a good margin. Power's team did not play up to form en the firat day, but came out of their shell on the second, when they : downed the redoubtable Te Aroha No. 1 team by a big margin. This was the one match the team particularly wanted to win. During the progress , of the game no less than nine dead- : head:; were made, and Cochrane, whom our opponents christened "Tommy Burns," showed them something new jin the "driving" line. The Fours I match was eventually won by Waihi I No. 2 team, after a very keen strugi gle with Waihi No. 1. Immediately ] the Four?, was completed the ['airs coummenccd. and it was unfortunate that Power was the only one of the local players able to remain and take part. With McKoLie, a Waihi player, as lead, he annexed this event after a good game in the final with the Thames team, the scores being ol - io. Visiting bowlers to 'I e Aroha were loud in complaint about the state of the greens, the upper one being in ' particularly bad order; but, in spite of this drawback the tournament proved highly enjoyable and will long be remembered by those who were privileged to take part.
