At 226 Nourse, who had relieved Faulkner, got Bardsley leg before. The batsman was suffering from a slightly strained wrist. Gehrs played a lively innings for 20, and made some fine strokes. Hill started with a stolen run. Trumper, driving Faulkner for four, completed his century in 126 minutes. In the same over Hill was caught at long-on off a no-ball. At the tea adjournment the total was 295 —Trumper 109, Hill 7. Llewellyn and Schwarz bowled after tea. Trumper was soon off again, but Hill was caught on the boundary behind the bowler. —Six for 319. In 246 minutes 350 runs were hoisted. Armstrong tried to place Sinclair to the on, but the ball kept low and bowled him. Seven for 384. Carter began watchfully, and Trumper continued vigorously, scoring three fours off Pegler's over, which brought the score to 400 in 312 minutes. Carter got out leg-before. Eight for 430. Cotter stayed for Trumper, who quickly ran to 200, which took him 227 minutes, He was in altogether 23U mitiutes, and hit 25 fourers. He dH not give a chance and scarcely made a false stroke during his magnificent innings, in which he only lifted the ball once, and that was for nearly a sixer, for which he received a great ovation. Thp fielding of the South Africans was fair. The weather changed to cool in the late afternoon, but rain is unlikely. Hill considers Trumper's was the finest knock he has ever seen.
