Anarchists in London.
ONLY TWO BODIES IDENTIFIED. •'PETER THE PAINTER" MISSING. 200 DETECTIVES SEARCHING. By Tcleyi.itih.- Pre:— .W.vUmon. Op.vrisM London, Thursday. Twelve Mauser and several Browning pistols have been found in tbe ruins in Sidney street Of the dead only Fritz and Svaars iiave been idnetified. The police are convinced that both were present at Houndsditch. It is uncertain whether "Peter the Painter's" companion MorountzefT, is regarded as the leader of the gang. Mr Winston Churchill has decided not to issue any Home Office report on the seige, but is considering, with the assistance of the Chiefs of the Metropolitan City Police and others, what fuiure measures are necessary to
cope with aiien criminals. Inquiries show that members of foreign clubs in London, generally favour the registration of aliens, with a view to excluding those unable to produce satisfactory credentials from their country of origin. Two hundred detectives in the East End. are searching for "Peter the Painter." The post-mortem examinations of Fritz Svaars and his companion showed that there was no bullets in either body, nor could a trace of any other wound be found.
INQUEST ON VICTIMS. Received January 7, 9.50 a.m. London, Yesterday. At the inquest on the Sydney street victims the medical evidence showed there was a bullet in the skull of one body. There was no evidence to show it was self-inflicted.
If the deaths of the three policemen heroes who met their doom while attempting to run to earth a gang of Russian anarchists in the East End of London recently serves no other good end, the triple sacrifice will, if official surmise be true, have been the means of saving the life of King George (say 3 a cable received in Australia last week). A sensational rumour is in circulation throughout Europe and America that a plan was approaching fruition to do away with the British monarch on the day of his corcnatiun. The story originated with the United Press of America, a usually wellinformed news source, whose London agents are responsible and careful journalists. They declare that in connection with the discovery of the bomb factory in Stepney, the Scotland Yard authorities also found an infernal machine of the most deadly type, and unearthed papers and pamphlets, written and printed in Russian and Yiddish, which go to prove that a serious attempt was being engineered to de-itroy the royal carriage and its occupants on the day of the coronation. The authorities abo found tools, chemicals and metal appliances, which show that other infernal machines were to be made. These things had been secreted in the house at Houndsditch. The police are convinced that burglary was only a blind for the anarchistic movements of the gang, and they hold that the knowledge which they now possess conclusively proves that an attempt was to be made on the life of the monarch.
