KAWHIA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The following report of business dealt with at the last meeting of the above Council, was held from our last issue:—
Public Works. —The Public Works Department intimated that the District Engineer was instructed to indicate to the County Engineer the locality and extent of works to be undertaken out. of moneys offered to the Council for expenditure. -Resolved to again communicate with the Minister on the subject.
Oangatangi, Huaora, and Awaiti Bridges.—The Pubiic Works Department, in reply to the Council's inquiry, stated that in all these instances the tenders had been let and arrangements made for starting the work. —Received. Pirongia West Road. —-The Public Works Department informed the Council that plans and specificaitons for a further fifty chains of road had been approved, and as the £7BO grant had already been authorised, the work might be gone on with forthwith. — Received.
Kowhia-Pirongia Road. —The Public Works Department stated that the District Engineer had reported the bad state of the Pirongia-Kawhia road, and requested that steps be taken to put it in repair. —Received. Kawhia-Aotea Road. —The Public Work a Department informed the Council that this road had been declared a County road. Received. Kawhia to Marakopa River Road.— The Under-Secretary for Public Works intimated that an additional grant of £3OO had been voted for this road.— Received.
ThP same Department also informed the Council that a sum of £545 was available out of the current year's grant for the same road. The Department also advised the Council that a sum of £250 (on account of £2500) was available for the same road. There was also a sum of £SO authorised for the Kauri branch road, and an available balance of £l5O (£ for £ on account) for the current year with regard to the Okupala road. Hauturu Post Office.—The Postal Department wrote explaining the position of the telegrapn at Ilauturu. —Cr Noonan stated that he had been in conversation with Mrs Gray on the matter, and found that the conditions were not quite as he had been led to believe. He would offer no objection to the arrangement, nor would he have done so before had he been acquainted with the details. Willow Trees. -Mr W. Morgan wr<>te asking for the removal of wiUow tvees in the Awaroa liver, as they were obstructing navigation.— Resolved that formal notice be given iQ tho owner of the property on whinh the trees were growing to have them removed. Vandalism.--Dr C. Campbell -Jenkins urged upon the Cuuneil the necessity of prosevving various scenic spots on the harbour, pointing out localities where bush waa being destroyed.— Decided to refer Dr Jenkins' letter to the Minister in charge of thin department.
