The "Times' " article en "Aeronautics in 1910" declares that flying is largely empirical. Ship?, birds, submarines and dirigibles all inherit a tendency to keep the right side up but aeroplanes do nothing of the kind and turn with the slightest provocation. The problem of equilibrium must be solved after much laborious scientific investigation, and each of its component problems, before aeroplanes can rank as scientific machines.
