Sydney, Last Night. The second test- match is beinj- continued in delightful weather and the condition of the wicket is good. The attendance is 14,000. Faulkner's innings was followed with intense interest. He and Snooke compiled 90. Faulkner scored 204, joining three others who exceeded 200 in test matches, namely Murdoch, Gregory and Foster. He was caught at the slips by Armstrong and received an ovation. He had batted 315 minutes, hitting 2(3 fourers. His race of scoring wai faster than Foster's phenomenal innings in 1903 at the test match at Sydney.
Snooke justified all the good things said concerning him by his fine innings. When Armstrong went on the spectators expected some fun, as he bowled the leg theory with thrae fieldsmen on the on-side boundary. Sinclair let the ball go, not being tempted by Armstrong, who abandoned these tactics. Then Sinclair opened his shoulders and drove Armstrong twice for six amidst great enthusiasm. Schwarz was dismissed first ball. Sinclair's runs included six fourers. The fielding was good and keen, the innings lasting 447 minutes. The wickets fell as follows:—one for 34, two for 141, three for 251, four for 298, five for 312, six for 402, seven for 469, eight for 169, nine for 482, ten for 506.
Trumper and Bardsley opened as usual in a quiet and confident manner. Bardsley jumped out to the first ball in the second over, which he missed and was stumped. Hill attempted to hit a boundary immediately afterwards. He jumped out and dragged his first ball on to the wickets. The spectators were dismayed at the two great batsmen's downfall.
Trumper scored 100 in 117 minutes. By this time nearly all South Africa's battery had been exposed Nourse, Snooke, Schwarz, Llewellyn, Peglar, Sinclair and Faulkner being ■:ried with the ball.
