THE EMPIRE PICTURES.

The opening p r c£ raniine of the Empire Picture Company, which is announced for Monday evening next in Te Kuiti Town Hall, has been specially selected for the occasion, and embraces many subjects that will no doubt prove both instructive and amusing. Among the principal films to be shown is one entitled "A Modern Prodigal," a story in symbolism showing the result of youth's egotism. The story, as depicted in the pictures, is full of human pathos and is said by those who have seen it to be one of the prettiest dramas shown. "A Visit to the State Quarries in Wales" is a very fine industrial subject, and should prove most interesting; "Uses of _ the Lassoo" is an educational subject, in which the many uses of th« lassoo can be put to by a skilled manipulist are vividly portrayed. Scenes of the recent revolution in Lisbon, King Manuei in England, etc., will be shown, as well as a large number number of other interesting subjects including, "The Bartell Sisters" (clever trick performer;), "Twa Hieland Lads," "The Connecting Link," "Her Uncle's Will," "Tweedledum," "Itching Powders," "One Night and Then," "Setting Back the Hands of Time," "Pedlar of Turkish Carpets," and a lovely scenic picture entitled "The River Coreze." In all over 7000 feet of film will be put through the bioscope. A staff of skilled mechanics are in charge of the electrical apparatus, and patrons are assured that the entertainment will be well worth seeing.
