LOCAL AND GENERAL NEWS.
A quiet wedding took place this \ morning when Miss Isubcl Hardy, only daughter of Mr and Mrs E. H. Hardy, Te Kuiti, was married to Mr Cecil McAdam. Mr and Mrs McAdam left by the eleven o'clock train for Auckland, en route for Canada, where Mr McAdam proposes taking up land. Mr L. B. Wilson, chief clerk in the Lands branch of the Railway Department, who has been appointed a judge of the Native Land Court, i 8 a halfcast Maori, son of the late Major vVilson, of Waikato, a solicitor of the Supreme Court, and has a thorough knowledge of Maoriland customs. The Prime Minister made a very important announcement the other day in connection with the advances to country settlers. It will be rememoered that a limit was observed by the Board in connection with loans on country properties. Sir Joseph Ward has now announced that the Advances Board has aboliihed the previously constituted limit, and country properties may now receive loans up to £3OOO, being the full amount allowed by the Act. The Catholic Bazaar came to a successful conclusion on Thursday night, and the cause of the church benefits to the extent of over £IOO, as a result. Father Tigar, 0.P., did much sterling work, and deserves the thanks of the local supporters for the way in which he spent time and money to help them i along. On the other hand, Father Tigar wishes to thank the many friends of all denominations who rallied round and helped to make the bazaar a success. He came a stranger, ho says, and they took him in, welcomed him, and encouraged him in his work on their behalf. The Minister of Internal Affairs informs Mr Jennings in reference to the petition of certain ratepayers of the Ohura County, asking that a portion of that county may be included in the Waiton o County, that there is no power given to the Governor to alter the boundaries of counties, except in the case of agreement between the councils of the counties concerned, made under section 16 of the Counties Act, 1908.
A meeting of the directors of the Otorohanga Saleyards Company was held on the 9th inst. Present, Messrs Robert Green, R. F. Gregg, Chas. Cater, Jno. Ormsby and Wm. Vicary (secretary pro tern.) After the correspondence had been dealt with it was decided to arrange for •an overdraft from the Bank of New Zealand for £3OO in order to meet liabilities until such time as the calls upon shares outstanding had been collected. A great number of these calls have been very slow in coming in, and it behoves shareholders to give this matter immediate attention. Several applications for shares were allotted, and accounts passed for payment.— Own Correspondent. The Postmaster-General informed Mr Jennings on December Ist that authority for a third weekly mail service from Te Kuiti to Arapae, Pio l J io and Aria, and a post office at Mapara had been given. This service has been running satisfactorily for some weeks now. . Mr Lonsdale, of the Ruakura State Farm was in Te Kuiti on Wednesday for the stock sale. He described the prices fetched as too high for the department's pocket. He came up prepared to buy a number of ewes, but found they went at a much higher figure than he was prepared to spend. It is gratifying to find such good prices ruling and to find the experimental farm looking in this direction for well bred stock. Messrs Chambers and Booth, proprietors of the "Dreadnought" gas, have this week paid a visit to Te Kuiti. They state that they are much impressed with the compactness of the township, and also the thriving appearance of the place.
The agents (Messrs Young and Co.) call the attention of the homesceker and the investor to an important sale of freehold and leasehold sections, as per advertisement in another column, for Thursday, 22nd insl , at 2 p.m. The sections are the properly of Mr Geo. Hetet and Messrs Wingato and Rivers, and are immediately joining that of Mr Bell. They will be sold on the ground, the sale being conducted by Mr J. R. Graham. The sections will be flagged, and meantime plans can be at Messrs Young and Co's. office or Mr Graham's sale room. Thsee sections are centrally situated and on the completion of Ihe borough works now authorised, will be even more so. The country is I beautiful level land and ready to build on. No hill-climbing or excavating expenses are needed and the soil id good with a natural drainage making them an ideal spot for beautiful, healthy and convenient homes. The marriage of Miss Mary (Minnie) McCallum, third daughter of Mr and Mrs C. S. McCallum, of "Roacavey," Paterangi (Waikato), to Mr Norman 11. P. Russell, of the Waikato Farmers' Supply Stores, Hamilton, and eldest son of Mr S. Russell, of Church street, Palmerston North, was solemnised at the renidcnco of (ho bride's parents, Hamilton, on Wednesday afternoon, 7th December. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. F. W. Clarke, of Te Awamutu. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a pretty creme costumc, and carried a lovely,bouquet of pink and white sweet peas. She was attended by her two sisters, the Misses Ellen and Tilda McCallum, as bridesmaids,• who wore pretty white embroidered muslin gowns, and pearl and olivine brooches, gifts of the bridegroom. Mr Percy Russell, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr J. H. Luxford, of Hamilton, was groomsman. After the ceremony afternoon tea was served, and when the customary toasts had been duly honoured, the happy couple left on their honeymoon, wheih is being spent at Whangatei.
