LONDON WOOL SALES. The High Commissioner's cable, dated London, December 6th, is as follows: — The sixth series of wool sales have closed. Fine merino 3 and all croa3breds are firm at the same price as at the close of last sale. Inferior merinos fd per lb cheaper. Trade is good, and prospects are favourable for crossbreds. Supplies will be moderate. Large shipments of merino wools are expected from Australia. Two thousand bales of New Zealand wool were he'd over. The estimated values of New Zealand wool at the close of the fifth series, held in London on the Bth October, were as follows: —Superior merino 13d to 15£ d, medium merino 10£ d to 12Ad, inferior merino 7id to lOd, fine crossbreds, all grades 13Jd to 16d, medium crossbreds lid to 13d, coarse crossbreds, all grades B§d to IOJd. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date December 6th: —"Wool: At the wool sales just closed, 112,000 bales of wool were sold, of which 60,000 bales were taken for the Continent; 8000 bales were held over. Sales closed with good competition. As compared vvirh closing rates at the last series of sales, prices of scoured merino super are about 5 per cent, lower, and of scoured crossbred 5 per cent, to 7£ per cent, higher." The Bank of New Zealand, Hamilton, has received the following cable from its London office:—"The sales have closed very firm and prospects are good. For all descriptions of wool except merinos, prices are unchanged. The sales closed regular for merinos. Total quantity held over 8000 bales, of which 1000 bales are New Zealand."
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Hamilton, have received the following cable from their London office, under date 6t'n inst. -.—"Sales closed firm and active with brisk competition. As compared with closing rates of last series, merino wools of good quality and condition, market prices unchanged; merino wools of other descriptions 5 per cent lower, merino wools, heavy, earthy and wasty, sometimes more; crossbred scoured 5 per cent- higher; sliped crossbred wools 5 per cent, higher. The total net quantity available amounted to 120,000 bales. * Sold for Home consumption 52,000 bales; sold to the Continent, 60,000 bales; carried forward, 8000 bales; not offered 3000 bales."
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— On Tuesday and Wednesday 6th and 7th inst., we held a horse sale in the Hamilton bazaar. During the two days we offered 83 unbroken colts and fillies, 158 draughts broken and 289 light harness horses and hacks. There was a keen demand for broken horses fit for any kind of work, but unbroken stock was dull of sale. Very few broken horses failed to change owners. Draughts suitable for heavy carting made £33 to £3B, waggoners £26 to £3O, milk cart sorts £lB to £24, medium draughts more aged £l6 10s to £2l, coach and buggy horses £ls to £23, well bred hacks £lB to £22 10s, useful hacks £l2 to £l6, saddle and harness cobs £lO to £ls, good ponies £5 to £B, weeds £1 to £2 10s, unbroken three year medium colts £l6 10s to £2O 10s, half draught colts two year olds £9 to £ll 10s, light sorts £4 10s to £7.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd , report as follows: — On Wednesday, 7th inst., we held our usual stock asle at Matamata where a fall yarding of cattle came forward, comprising some well bred young steers and heifers, also some splendid lines of cow beef and forward bullocks. Two lots of sheep were offered, a pen of fat ewes and a few woolly ewes and lambs. There was a splendid attendance of settlers from the surrounding districts, and competition was very keen for all sorts. We quote as follows Woolly ewes with lambs 20s, fat and forward ewes, shorn 12s 9d, fat cows £4 10s to £5 10s, forward empty cows £3 15s to £4 2s, store bullocks £6 10s, yearling steers £3 3s to £3 4s, yearling heif ers £2 to £2 10s, springers to £B, calves 25s to 31s, pigs, weaners 14s, slips to 29s 6d. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Auckland, have received the following cable from their London Office, under date 7th inst.:' —"Butter —Market dull, total imports into United Kingdom for week ending Saturday last 99,000 cwts. as compared with 84,000 cwts. for the corresponding period of last year. We quote —Finest New Zealand butter, salted 108s per cwt., Danish 114s, Queensland 102s, finest Australian salted 104s, finest Austra lian at a premium, but inferior butter unsalted very dull. Tallow—lrregular, unchanged on the average, except mutton fair to good 3d to 6d lower since our last wire."
Messrs Alfred BucUland and Sons report: — On Wednesday, at Westfinld, the 439 beef yarded met a steady demand throughout, and previous week's values were sustained. Ox beef 23s to 25s per 1001b, cow and heifer 19s to 235, steres £7 2s 6d to £l3 2s 6d, cow 3 £4 5s to £8 10s, calves, suckers heavy £2 10s to £3 3s, medium £1 6s to £2 10s, medium to light 15s to 30s, small 6s to 23. There was an average entry of fat sheep, but competition wa3 less keen and prices receded. Heavy Wethers 18s 6d to 20s, medium 15s to 17s, best ewes 15s to 17a 6d, others lis to 14s 6d. There was a drop in the lamb market of 2s to 3s a head. Prime heavy 16s to 17s, others 12s 6d to 15s, light-and unfinished 7s to lis 9d. There was a moderate supply of pigs with little alteration in vaules. Baconers 36s to £2 133, large porkers 29s to 345, lighter 20s to 28s, weaners 4s 6d to 10s 6d,
