The recent defeat of Sir Wilfrid Laurier's naval policy in Quebec province has been utilised by the Conservatives to attack the administration. Sir Wilfrid Laurier quoted from a pamphlet, showing the horrors of conscription, used Mr Drummond in the - basca and demanded the name of the writer.
Mr Monk, Leader of the Opposition, replied that Sir Wilfrid Laurierßhould quote the Liberal speaker who declared the Canadian Navy would be able to pound England, if she became troublesome. The speaker was interrupted by cries of "You lie," followed by confusion. , Sir Wilfrid Laurier disclaimed any knowledge of the incident and declared Canada was bound to maintain preference to Britain in spite of reciprocity with the United States.
