VETO BILL IN LORDS.
LANDSDOWNE'S PROPOSALS. ASQUITH ON SALARIES. Received November 22, 6.40 p.m. London, Yesterday. In the House of Lords Earl Crewe moved the first reading of the Veto Bill which was seconded by Lord Roberts, who withdrew his defence motion, Earl Crewe stating they were unable to discuss it at the present juncture. Lord Landsdovvne gave notice of his intention to move on Wednesday resolutions dealing with the deadlock between the Houses and resolutions in favour of the referendum on matters of great gravity. The Lords were foregoing their right to reject purely financial and money Bills, and the question of tacking would have to be nettled by a joint committee of both Houses, the Speaker having a casting vote in the House of Commons. Mr Asquith, in reply to a question, said he was not prepared to state the amount of members' proposed salaries. PREMIER'S STATEMENT. Received November 23, 10.15 a.m< London, Last Night. The Premier stated in the House of Commons that if the Government was re-elected facilities would be given to deal with female suffrage, in addition to payment of members and election expenses. The Government would legislate to permit trades unions to include in their objects the provision of parliamentaryand municipal funds,if the opinions of unions were effectively ascertained, and there was no compulsion on members to contribute.
