At Mercer yesterday a half-crstc named Epe 11a was charged with tohungaism amongst the Maoris in the surrounding districts. The evidence showed the defendant treated cases of sickness by holding religious services over them, and resorting to old superstitions. Mr Scott Smith, S.M., aaid the defendant was a real bad man, an! convicted him and ordered hint to come up for sentence when called upon and to pay the costs totalling £ll 2s (id.
