Feather-eating is generally traceable to two causes- -either to want of occupation or to over-heatinE of the blood, which frequently arises through lack of green food. The remedy is to give the birds all the scratching exercise possible, and to provide a mangold wurzel or swede for them to peck at during the winter and early spring, when green food h not available, and to cut tlieir beaks by removing the sharp horn from points and sides, so that they cannot hold the feathers to pu|l them out. Linseed meal, in small quantitiesis a fine food for breeding sows; i, keeps the stomach healthy and furt nishes food for the making of bone and bacoi?.
