" Old Tom Moore."

To the Editor. Sir, —Noticing a paragraph and letter in your two recent issues with reference to "Tom" Moore's coach service, I have been having a think, and after mature consideration, have come to the conclusion that we settlers of the Ohura are greatly indebted to old Tom Moore and his coach service. Two years ago when the road was in a deplorable condition, and when the mail coach had stopped running, Tom Moore battled throughout the winter and kept us supplied with bread and stores generally, and proved that with grit it was possible to worry through. His bi-weekly service during that trying season was a real boon to us and the following year when, owing to a personal accident, he had to suspend the service for a couple of months, we were at our wits' ends as to how to get in the necessities of life. This year "Tom" has the mail contract and has managed to carry out his duties in every way satisfactorily, and the new tri-weekiy mail service is permanently established. Tom Moore is an established lact, and we could not do without him. Now, I would ask my fellow settlers to consider the suggestion that we give the popular mail contractor a testimonial of some kind to mark our appreciation of his yeoman service to the district in keeping the road open throughout the past three winters. I hope to hear of a meeting being called to carry out my humble suggestion. —I am, etc., . OHURA SETTLER.
