The Royal Mint has suspended the issue to the Bank of England of halfcrowns and florins, owing to complaints of a comparative scarcity of shillings and sixpences in circulation. One of the jurors summoned at an inquest held at Maidstone was totally blind. He had been summoned in mistake, but was nevertheless sworn, and with the other jurymen went through the formality of viewing the body. One hundred and sixty thousand immigrants arrived in Canada during the six months ending June 30th. Of these 75,000 were British and Continental. The remainder were mostly Americans settling in Western Canada. Ten white leghorn fowls accompanied Lady Islington to New Zealand in order to provide the table delicacy right from the nest. They laid 160 eggs on the voyage. At a public meeting, held in Feilding on Tuesday week, after a lecture by Mr J. B. Merrett, a Feilding Egg Circle was formed. This is the fourth circle in New Zealand. Application has been made to the English Board of Trade for a license permitting Lloyd's Insurance Brokers' Association to be registered with limited liability without the addition of the word "limited" to its name.
