HOCKEY.

Te Kuiti hockey team (men's) visited Te Awamutu on Thursday and indulged in a friendly game with the neighbouring team. Contrary to expectations the visitors showed capital form, and although having only had one practice together, succeeded in defeating Te Awamutu after a very fast game by 4 goals to 1. In fairness to the latter it must be said that their best team was not available, but they considered they had a very fair one in nevertheless. The game was full of incident right through, and to a man Te Kuiti played really well. | The greatest surprise to the visitors was the accurate shooting of J. Hetefc and Fitzmaurice, while several other shots missed the posts by very little. The outstanding feature of the game was the splendid goalkeeping of W. McColl, who saved repeatedly, and some of the shots were very hot ones. I The goals were scored for Te Kuiti by !J. Hetet and Fitzmaurice, these playj ers shooting two each. Ryder scored : for Te Awamutu. I Mr McGovern had charge of the whistle, and gave every satisfction. On arrival at Te Awamutu the visitors were met by several of the local players, who had placed a 'bus at the disposal of the visitors, and conveyed them to Jackson's Hotel, where dinner was provided. After the game they were driven to the station. Te Awamutu's hospitality was appreciated vp.ry much by the visitors, who speak in glowing terms of the attention of the neighbouring club, who did all in their power to make the trip the enjoyable one it proved to be. They also know the true spirit of sport and took their defeat like men, congratulating Te Kuiti on their win, and many were the good expressions tendered to the visitors on the form they displayed. The team returned to Te Kuiti by the 7 p.m. train.
