COUNTRY NEWS.

Own Correspondents. -< Kiritehere-Moeatoa. Lambing is now in full swing. There is every evidence that good per- ' centages will be obtained and fiockmasters are very hopeful. Settlers, have had a good take of grass on their new burns. Hills and valleys that presented a very blackened and dismal appearance a few months ago are now clothed with crops of nice young grass. Bushfelling operations continue to be the principal work and there is ample and ready employment for good men. It is expected that a considerable amount of road-making work will be available shortly. Mr W. T. Jennings, M.P., has written advising that settlers wishing to control the Marakopa river by means of a harbour board should forward all necessary information to the Minister for Marine. He also states that it would be impossible to get a Bill through this session. It is to be hoped that a meeting will be held soon to get affairs in a working shape. 2 Mr R. Gregg has lately taken up two adjoining sections of native land in the Kiritehere Valley. These sections have been on the market since March last, but for some reason or other they were not taken up. The land is good and equal to anything in the district. The roads are in a very bad state and it is hoped that since the days are getting longer and the sun becoming more powerful that a big improvement will soon take place. Several invitations have been received by settlers in this part to a dance to be given by the young ladies of Mairoa about the middle of the month.
