HOCKEY
The return match between the Te Kuiti ladies' hockey club and Te Awamutu club was played at the latter town on Thursday. , Quite a number of male and female supporters of the club journeyed with the team to give encouragement to the players. The game was not so one-sided as the one played at Te Kuiti some time ago, the visitors since having got in some good practices and improved wonderfully. The first half was slightly in favour of Te Awamutu, but the second was greatly in favour of the travelling team, and they had hard luck on several occasions in not scoring. The real trouble lies in the fact that the team lacks a scoring member, which, when cultivated, will be the means of the Te Kuiti girls winning many good games, as they possess several really good players, with a little more finish to their work. The match on Thursday was a hard one, and ended in a drawn game, neither side notching a goal. The team played beyond expectations, and all showed improved form, and it is quite unnecessary to say who played well, with the exception of little Miss Muriel Bayley, Misses C. Bayley and C. Boddie, these three proving a power of strength to their side. Mr Cruickshank refereed splendidly. In the evening the visiting team and friends were entertained at a social, and all returned to Te Kuiti with nothing but praises of the hospitality extended to them by the Te Awamutu girl 3, who also provided afternoon tea on the ground and luncheon after the game was over. The Te Kuiti girls are looking forward very much to more games with their neighbouring club, as the two already played have proved very pleasant ones indeed.
