Ohura.

A meeting of residents of the Ohura was held in the Mangaroa Hall last week when it was decided to form a gymnastic and boxing club. The following officers were appointed:--Patron, his Excellency the Governor; president, Mr W. K. Williams; vice presidents, Messrs G. Stevenson, G. R. Beresford, D. J. Bruce, C. Manning, G. Loveday, G. Denison, T. de Vere Hunt, W. Sandison, G. Simpson, A. Sayers and S. 'Currie; committee, Dr Latchmore, Messrs H. Aves, J. McClenaghan, A. Rosenfeldt, W. M. Healey, A. Apted, G. A. Millar, E. Gothard, P. Dons, F. Simpson S. Dons, E. Owens, W. H. Dobbie and I'. MacClure; treasurer, Mr R. E. Hollow. The most laudable object of forming the above club is to develop the mental and physical stamina of the young men in the district, of which there are a large number with practically no occupation for their spare time. The formation of this association should be of great benefit to the whole district, and they are exceedingly fortunate m X getting the support of so many enthusiastic and influential officers, nearly all of whom, including his Excellency the Governor, have signified their intention of accepting office. The committee appointed is also a strong one and includes some of the best and keenest "sports" to be found in the district. The Mangaroa Hall has been engaged e ach Saturday, evening, when it/is proposed to hold classes. It is hoped that in time the association will extend its scope and have more meetings and a building of its own. It has been decided to hold a combined concert and dance early next month, as an official opening. Everything points towards the success of the club and there can be no doubt it will supply a long-felt want.
