TE KUITI BOWLING CLUB.
The third annual meeting of Te Kuiti Bowling Club was held on Thursday evening in llattaway's Ilall. There was a large and representative attendance of new and old mpmberß and Mr E. A. Power (president) occupied 11n- chair. The. secretary (Mr M. ,1. Jones) readJß a statement- oi accounts up to -tth, 1910, which showed -Receipt!: Overdraft from the Union Hank of Huhscriptioua paid, A'lH 2s (id; and profits from socials, etc., £8 19s lid; tola), A 222 2s r>d. The unpaid accounts amounted to £22 4s rul, leaving, after allowing for the credit, balance. a debit, balance of £9 1 s 2d for Ihe period.
The statement, was adopted. The president read the report of the outgoing committee, which described the way in which the green had been brought to its present, pitch of perfection, on (he lines of the interview in last, Saturday's, "Chronicle." The A'2oo borrowed from the Union Bank at i> per cent, was guaranteed by 15 members and the repayment of the amount, should be a first charge on the funds, '.fbe estimated receipts from members, taking fifty male and fifty lady members was AI2H las. The estimated expenditure included wages of caretaker ATS, mowing machine A'.!, water supply A 1 d, oth;t sundries Aid, total Alio, leaving an estimated credit, balance id' A',27. It, would be necessary to provide a pavilion to accommodate members, to include a men's room Id by Id, a ladies room 10 by 10, a caret, akor's room, and a tool shed. The estimated cost was A', r ,d. Each member would he provided with a locker at, a charge of 2s dd si year. The services of Mr Win, ,!uli were available as caretaker on tonus that, were highly satisfactory to the club.
A long" discussion arose on the question of the employment of the caretaker.
The president, said the caretakers of the Auckland greens, none of them so large as theirs, were, paid from £2 2s to £2 Ids with house. It was necessary that someone should be there to see 1 hat, the green was kept, in proper order for play. A great, part, of the work had t.o be done after ordinary working hours, and if a man was cmployed only two or three days a week, they were courting trouble. It was no use unless they could have the green in first -class working order, especially for younger players. ]n his opinion the cost, of upkeep was ridiculously low. Mr Dranstield supported the appointment and said young," members needed a perfect green and older members growled if it was not perfect. If the member hip grew in numbers, they would require afternoon teas provided and the caretaker was necessary. He certainly thought the proposal desirable.
in reply to Mr lioddie, the president said the cost, of the pavilion would be A'eu. lie thought the caretaker would enter into a twelve months' agreement., at, least.
Mr Lissaman, speaking am a howler of twenty years, said that to have a lirei class green they must have a man there all the time. Tlicy had one of the best, greens in the country, and if it, was kept, up they would have a big membership, and it would be a big suece'-'s. Mr (.'ral.am quoted his experiences ami said irregular employment of the caretaker at Palinorston led to it talcing three to four years to got the green into order. Since the permanent employment of the caretaker they had been saved a lot of I rouble and expense. J\lr ileddie said that, after the practically unanimous expressions of opinion, he thought t hey could do no better than instinct the incoming committee to arrange for the caretaker on the lines laid down.
The. secretary reminded members there was the financial aspect oi the scheme to be considered. The coat of the pavilion would be .iIMI. The report, was adopted. The election of otlicer.s was then proceeded will', anil resulted as follows: President, Mr E. A. Power; vice-presidents, Messrs Jioddie and White; secretaiy. Mr S. Dransfield; treasurer, Mr Snadden; committee, Messrs Jones, l.issaman, Forsyth, Porter and I>r Kullerlon ; auditor, Mr C. P. Lever; trustees, Messrs Hoddie, Lineham and Porter.
The pavilion ijuesLion was then iliacussed.
The president was doubt l'ul about a further loan. The other methods of raising the money were debenture?, charging an entrance fee, subscriptions or entertaniments.
Mr Poddie opposed a further loan and suggested an entrance fee of ,I'l Is, or debentures might be issued.
Dr Fullerion thought, an entrance fee of lO.s from new members (. r >s lroni ladies! would distribute the load pretty evenly anil not leave the burden to a few willing ones. II debentures were issued it. would prejudice them when issuing' debentures to wipe off their liability at the bank.
