On Monday, 25th inst., we held a clearing sale on account of Mr J. A. Madill, on his farm at Parawera. All the stock, consisting mostly of heifers in calf, sold well, as also horses and implements, the latter being in good condition order and well kept. Heifers in calf £6 15s to £7 10s, others £4 17s to £6 ss, milch heifers £6 2s Gd, draughts £23 to £26 10s, hacks £l2 to £ls, pigs, porkers 235. On Wednesday we held our first dairy cows sale in the Hamilton yards, when a fair entry came forward, consisting of some well-bred heifers, especially the entry on account of Mr S. Worsp, of Taupiri, which were a choice lot and solicited keen competition. The sale throughout was very animated. Forward springing heifers £7 15s to £B, medium sorts £5 10s to £6 10s, backward heifers £4 5s to £5 ss, milch heifers £7 7s 6d, milch cows £7.
On Thursday, 28th inst., we held our usual stock sale in the' Hamilton yards, when a good yarding of both cattle and sheep came forward. The competition for sheep was not very good at first except for one or two lines of hoggets for which there wai brisk bidding, we, however, disposed of the whole yarding directly after the sale. On the other hand, beef was in good demand and competition was very brisk, especially for heifer beef, young dairy heifers were also eagerly sought after. Fat ewes 15s, ewes in lamb 15s lOd to 18s, mixed hoggets, small lis, ewe hoggets 13s to 13s lid, cull ewes in lamb lis, empty ewes aged 7s 6d, fat bullocks £9, fat heifers £6 12s to £7 14s, empty heifers £5, store cows £3, 2 year heifers in calf £3 163 to £4.
We held our usual weekly fat stock sale at Westfield sale'yards on Wednesday, 27th inst., as under:—Beef —A moderate entry. Choice ox beef was a shade easier than last week and sold at equal to 25s 6d per hundred. Ordinary prime and medium weight ox was easier and sold at equal to 22s to 23s per hundred. Cow and heifer beef sold at 10s to 225. Veal—A small entry which sold at late rates. Mutton —An average yarding. The demand was a shade better than last week. Choice extra heavy wethers sold at up to 275, ordinary heavy 21s to 245, light and unfinished 17s to 19s, heavy ewes fetched up to 18s, ordinary quality 12s to 15s, inferior 9s to lis. Lamb —A moderate entry. Choice heavy sold at up to 17s, ordinary heavy 12s to 15s, light and unfinished 6s to 10s 6d. Pork -A large entry. Choice lightweight porkers sold at equal to 4d per lb, heavy at equal to 3Jd per lb. On Thursday at Westfield we held our usual store stock and dairy cow sale-good dairy cows at profit are scarce and command up to £lO for good sorts, others £5 to ,£7 10s, first-class heifers at calving £6 to £B, Sh year steers £4 15s, yearlings £2 10s to £2 15s, 4, 6 and 8 tooth crossbred ewes in lamb sold at up to 16s 9d, full-mouthed do. to 13s 9d. We held our usual weekly sale of hides, skins, tallow, etc., on Tuesday, 26th inst., clearing a large catalogue. Hides —Market keeping low. Extra stout ox to 7£d, stout ox to 6fd, medium 6d to 6£d, light 5d to 6d. Cow, best lines to 6id, good s|d to 51d,. inferior sgd to s£d, stags 4|d to sd, kips sfd to 6£d, calf, best to Bd, good 6Jd to 6£d, damaged hides 3£d to sd. Sheepskins Market slightly easier. Butcher's best skins to 6s 6d, good 5s to 5s Bd, medium 4s''2d to 4s 6d, small 3s to 3s 6d, dry skins, large to ss. Tallow —Market continues firm. Best mixed 28s, good 26s 6d, medium 23s to 24s 6d, rough fat l|d to lid per lb. Cow tails—ls 8d per dozen. Horse hair —Is 4d to Is Sd per lb. Bones—£4 17s 6d per ton. Rabbits skins —Firm with slight advance on prime does and bucks. Winter does, prime 34d, to 40d per lb, seconds 26d to 34d, winter bucks, prime 18Jd to 23£ d, seconds 17d to 19d, autumn 15d to 16£ d, summers 8d to lOd, first winter black to 32d, seconds 18d to 21d.
The Farmers' Auctioneering Company, Ltd., reports:— At Ohaupo, on Tuesday, July 26th, we held a large sale, yarding 7354 sheep and 1559 head of cattle. Buyers were present from all neighbouring districts, competition was keen, and a very satisfactory sale to vendors eventuated. The sheep comprised 3571 ewe and wether hoggets, 3421 ewes in lamb, 257 empty ewes and a few wethers, and rams Woolly hoggets made from lis 4d to 13s 9d, shorn hoggets 9s 5d to 12s 7d, a few cull hoggets 5s 8d to 8s 6-1, forward conditioned empty ewes 10s 6d to lis 6d, 4, 6 and fresh full-mouih long wool ewes in lamb 20s 4d, full-mouth crossbred ewes in lamb 15s 4d to 17s Gd, aged ewes in lamb JOs 4d to 12s 7d, 200 choice 2 tooth Romney ewes in lamb 25s 6d, forward wethers 16s Id, forward conditioned steers £6 3s to £7 12s, fresh 3 year steers £5 4s to £5 17s, store 3£ year steers £5 9s, rising 3 year store steers £4 10s to £4 16s, 18 month to 2 year store steers £3 7s 6d to £3 17s 6d. good steer yearlings £2 16s, others not so choice £2 5s to £2 Bs, mixed yearlings, good 40s to 455, smaller 30s to 365, choice dairy heifers £6, backward cows and heifers £4 5s to £5, yearling heifers 40s to 495.
At Waihon, on Friday, July 29th, we had a yarding of 785 sheep and 542 head of cattle. Heavy fat steers £8 10s to £lO, light weight steers £6 10s to £7 15s, fat cows £4 15s to £6 7s 6d, store cows £2 10s to £3 ss, bulls £2 15s to £6 10s, choice yearling heifers £2 10s to £2 16s, good mixed yearlings 37s 6d to 475, smaller sorts 30s to 355, dairy heifers forward in calf £5 10s to £7, backward £4 10s to £4 15s, cull dairy-cows £3 10s to £4 10s, heavy fat wethers 22s 3d to 23s 3d, lighter weights 7s to 8s 3d, hoggets lis to 12s 3d, ewes in lamb 17s, fat ewes 14,s lOd, sows in young £3 10s to £3 15s, weaner pigs 7s 3d to 12s 3d, slips 16s 9d to 17s.
