TE AWAMUTU SALEYARDS

The saleyards erected by the Te Awamutu Town Board were opened at noon on Saturday by Mr H. J. Greenslade, M.P., for the district, who was also accompanied by Messrs W. T. Jennings and F. Lawry, M.P's. The yards, situated in the centre of the township, cost £SOO, which was provided by a loan of £BOO from the Government, at 4g per cent., for 33J years. The balance is to be devoted to the erection of a horse bazaar.

Mr Greenslade congratulated the Town Board on their enterprise in providing such up-to-date yards, which would be of great benefit to the settlers.

Mr Jennings congratulated the Board, and said it was gratifying that the public utilities were keeping pace with the South, and affording facilities for the progress of the district.

Mr Lawry having spoken, Mr Greenslade formally declared the yards opened. The opening sale was conducted by the Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, all the pens being filled, and good prices obtained under keen competition In the evening a banquet was held in the Town Hall, and was largely attend 3d.
