The following, which is a copy of a telegram received from Sir J. Ward, Minister of Defence, to Mr Latchmore, Ohura, explains itself: —"In reply to your telegram the position is this, that proposals will be laid before Parliament this session to bring the new scheme into line with Lprd Kitchener's recommendation?, On the measure becoming law active operation will commence to enrol Territorials and otherwise bring the defence scheme into full swing. In the meantime it will not be practicable to form any new corps as should they differ from the uniformity aimed at inconvenience might result from any necessary changes. I appreciate the desire shown by. the men of Ohura to bear their share in the defence of Dominion, and under circumstances would advise them, to hold the matter in abeyance until the question of formation of companies comes up for consideration towards the end of the yea?*" (Signed) J.
