KAWHIA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Kawhia County Council was held on June 25th. Present—Crs W. J. Shaw (chairman), A. W. Elliott, R. T. Davies, Jas. Kearns, J. E. Noonan and A. W. Babbage. ~ Communications were received from the Public Works Department, re the Kawhia s to Marakopa river road for which road the Government, some time ago, offered the Council a grant of £BO3. —The proposals submitted to the Department for the expenditure of part of this money were not to the satisfaction of the District Engineer, and the plars were returned and the Council was requested to submit fresh pro-

posals The Department offered to make a grant of £7BO for putting the Pirongia West road in order.

In reply to a request from the Council- to expend the vote of £2OO authorised for the Aotea-Raglan road in forming the road from the Aotea Harbour to.the County boundary, the Department replied that the whole of this vote had been authorised for expenditure to the Raglan County Council. —It was decided that a deputation from the Council proceed to Wellington at once and lay-the whole of the matter before the Minister.

The superintendent of electric lines notified the Council that the Marakopa telephone office had proved to be selfsupporting and that the bend entered into by the Council in respect of the construction of the line was cancelled. The superintendent of the State Guaranteed Advances Office forwarded the provisional consent of his Board to a loan of £IOOO for further harbour improvements. ' The secretary of the Taumarunui Chamber of Commerce wrote stating that a conference of local bodies would be held at Taumarunui on 12th July for the purpose of discussing matters of importance to the King Country.— It was decided that the delegates to Wellington attend this conference on their way back. It was resolved to make application to have the Council constituted a leasing authority under the Public Bodies Leases Act. Application is to be made to the .Government to open for selection a block of 900 acres at Oparau.
