Sheep on Footpaths.

To the Edtior. Sir,- —We who are residents in the district on the west side of Rora street, opposite the Domain, have recently been congratulating ourselves on, the enterprise shown by the Borough Council in ptimicing the. footpaths, and as far as could be, making it possible for our women and children to travel to and from school or town. On Wednesday afternoon about 1500 sheep were brought on to the block where I live, and were deliberately left to wander at their own sweet will all over the place. The pumiced footpaths are no more. I came home by the night express on Friday, and in my innocence walked up the road leading to my home. I went over the boot tops in a mixture of clay an 3 sand all the way, and my language on discovering the cause had better be oriiitted from your columns. Anyway —these sheep have been out each day since arrival, and to all appearances have settled down on free, residential grazing land unwillingly provided by much-suffering owners. Can nothing be done to stop this wantop disregard of public, and private rights? It is one of the coolest and cheekiest pieces of business I have ever met with. I hope our municipal authorities will make a stern example of the offender, whoever he may be.—l am etc. PEDESTRIAN.
