COMMERCIAL.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Auckland, report as follows: — At Westfield on June Ist we had a large yarding of beef. Last, week's rates were well maintanied for wellfinished pens, but the majority of the cattle were not well-finished and the demand for this class were hardly as good as previous sales. Prime ox averaged 21s 6d for fair good weights, unfinished selling aU equal to 21s per lOOlbs. A moderate entry of veal sold at late rates. Good calves (suckers) to 30s, heavy to £2 10s, small 5s to

15s. There a was fairly large yarding of sheep. Prime sheep sold at late rates, heavy wethers to 235, forward wethers 15s to 15s 6d. A moderate entry of lamb sold at late rates for prime, partly finished easier. Heavy pork sold at equal to 3| per lb, light at equal to 4d. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Auckland, have received the following cable from their London office, under date 29th inst.: "Horns, market unchanged; bones and hoofs, nothing offered; hides, dull but prices are not quotably lower; leather, very firm; basils, fair demand for good qualities, market is overstocked with inferior which are very difficult to sell." Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Auckland, have received the following cable from their London office, unJer date June 3rd:—"Forzen Meat.—Mutton —-Rather more enquiry, any change in prices is in favour of sellers. Lamb —Good demand; since our last wire prices are 'Jd to Jd per lb higher. Beef —N.Z. prime ox, hinds s£d, fores 4§d. Sheepskins—Public sales continue firm as compared with last sales closing ratse. Merinos three-quarter to full-woolled prices are par to Id higher since our last wire. Shortwoolled and shorn pelts par to &d higher. Crossbred fine three-quarter to full-woolled prices unchanged. Crossbred coarse unchanged. Crossbred short-woolled and shorn pelts par to fd higher. Lambs par to fd higher. Tallow Has declined materially. Cause of decline is speculation in American market collapsed. Australian and New Zealand shipments over the last threa months show affidavits 9300 tons of tallow in excess of the corresponding period of last year. Next week we anticipate frozen beef rather easier, mutton and lamb firmer."

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., report: —■ At Te Kuiti stock sale on June Ist, 520 cattle were submitted. There was a large attendance of buyers, and a keen demand. The cattle were all well bred and in splendid condition, and the whole entry changed hands. Fat steers made from £7 17s to £8 4s, 3£ year steers in forward condition up to £5 17s, 3 year steers £4 15s to £5 6s, 2 year steers £3 10s to £3 lS.s, 20 month steers £2 17s to. £3 ss, fat cows and heifers £4 14s to £5 3a, empty cows £2 I.os to £2 18s, heifers in calf £4 3s; 2 and 4 tooth wethers 14s, woolly lambs 8s 4d. At Ngaruawahia on 3rd June, we yarded 650 cattle and 800 sheep. There was,a large attendance of buyers eager to do business. All sold under brisk competition. Three and a-half year steers, very forward, made £5 18s to £6 15s, others £4 17s 6d to £5 Is, 2\ to 3 year steers £4 5s to £4 15s, 20 months to 2 year steers £3 to £3 14s, fat cows £4 15s to £5 Is, store cows £2 lis to £3 9s, according to condition, empty heifers in forward condition £3 12s 6d to £3 18s, 3 year heifers in calf £4 10s to £5 17s 6d, calves £1 5s to £2 2s, dairy cows.£4 5s to £5 2s ,6d; shorn lambs 5s lOd to 8s 6d, woolly lambs 9s 4d. At the clearing sale held on account of Mr J. Bukowsky, on Monday last, a good demand existed for all live and dead stock. Dairy cows to calve in spring realised frpm £5 10s to £7, spring trap marea Jl6 10s tp £25, buggy- hQrses £l3 to £l3 ss, harness, tools, furniture, etc., at good prices.

The Farmer*' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report: —■ In conjunction with, the Loan and Mercantile we held a clearing sale at Mr James Anderson's, Pukerimu, on June Ist. There was a vgry large attendance and a very successful sale resulted. The dairy herd, being an old-established and particularly good one, elicited keen competition, the best cows making £9 to £l4 10s others £7 5s to £8 10s, the herd averaging £9 ss. Pigs—Sows £3 to £5 ss, slips 9s to 12s. Hack and harness horses £lO to £l2 10s, waggon £3O.

On the same day, on account of Mr Norman Macky, we sold 60 choice Jersey and Holstein cross heifers. These sold readily, making for the best £6 10s to £9, others £5 to £6 ss. bagk* ward heifers £3 to £4, medium draught geldings £25 10s to £3l 10s. PigsSows £2 17s 6d to £3, porkers 225, large 16$ to 48s, weaners 6s to 7s.

At Hamilton on June 2nd, we yarded 250 head of cattle and 900 sheep. Fat cow 3 and heifers made £5 to £6 ss, lighter sorts £4 15s to £5, forward cows £3 6s to £4 10s, 18 month and 2 year steers £3 to £3 12s 6d, good calves 27s to 355, others 15s to 17s, in calf heifers £5 7s 6d to £6, more backward sorts £3 19s to £4 15s; Eat wethers 16s 6d to 19s, fat ewes 17s 6d, fat lambs 10s to 13s 6d, ewes in lamb 5s to 9s Id, cull ewes 3s 6d; slips 14s, weaners 3s 6d to 6s.
