A meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board was held at Hamilton on Thursday. In the absence of the chairman (Mr John Fisher), Mr Chepmeil presided. There were also present: — Messrs Bailey, Johnson, Keeley, Shaw, Young, Paterson, Swayne, and Kay. Leave of absence was granted Messrs Fisher and Dickinson. The Inspector-General notified the appointment of Mr George Kay, of Kawa, to represent the Taupo East and West Counties, and of Mr Jiames Boddie, of Te Kuiti, to represent the Waitomo and Ohura Counties. The secretary to the Auckland Education Board notified the Board's in tention to acquire, under the Public Works Act, a site of two acres, being part of the hospital reserve, section 101, Horotiu Parish. —Decided to claim £ls an acre. An offer of 200 books from the old Cambridge library, was accepted with thanks. The Kawhia county clerk, wrote asking for the source from which the figures £357,497, shown as the rateable value of that county in the schedule of allocations were taken, as his Council considered there had been an error. — The clerk stated that the information had befen forwarded. The Deputy-Valuer General wrote in regard to the levying and collecting the rate over the Counties of Awakino, Taupo East, Taupo West, Rotorua and Rotorua township, that the rate would be made payable at the office of the Board The writer suggested that as the rateable capital value for Taupo West included the total for Taumarunui township, and as the Town Board was in itself empowered to levy a rate, the Hospital Board should obtain Taumarunui's contribution direct, leaving the Department to collect the balance of the county rate. The medical Superintendent reported that the number of patients in the hospital at the last return was 51 males and 31 females, admitted since 36 males 25 females, discharged since 33 males 28 females, remaining at date 54 males 28 females.
