FOOTBALL.

Te Kuiti 3 v. Mokauiti 0. The above match was played yesterday at Aria. The reason for playing on Friday instead of to day was that the Te Kuiti players could more conveniently travel on that day, and the Mokauiti generously consented to the change of date. Te Kuiti arrived three men short, their places being taken by H. Rothery, K. Kerr and Coe. It is very regrettable that men will consent to travel and then at the last moment fail to fulfil their obligations to their club, and it is to be hoped that yesterday's experience is more the exception than the rule in Te Kuiti.

From the start of the game the Mokuaiti forwards shewed themselves to be too weighty for their opponents, and consequently carried the scrums every time. Te Kuiti soon discovered that their chance of victory lay in making the game an open one. About a quarter of an hour after the start, the visiting forwards got possession and rushed into their opponents' 25, where a free kick was awarded to Te Kuiti. H. Rothery short punted, followed up and again secured the ball, passed to S. Cleaver, who scored. The kick at goal proved fruitless. After this the game was an open and fairly even one right to the call of time, and no further scoring was done by either side, the game ending—Te Kuiti 3, Mokauici nil. The superiority of the Mokauiti forwards was counterbalanced by the superior play of the Te Kuiti backs. The game was played in a most friendly spirit throughout and the Te Kuiti team speaks highly of the hospitality extended to them. After the match the two teams sat down to dinner at Mr Brown's boarding hou.se, where full justice was done to the many good things provided. The team arrived back at Te Kuiti at 1 a.m., apd give credit to Mr V. S. Hattaway's driver and horses for the excellent way in which they were piloted over the 48 mile 3 of heavy road.
