A feature of the Winter Show at Hamilton next month will be the display of machinery. The space applied for is already far in excess of that of any previous year, and a feature in this department, will be three woolclipping demonstrations daily. The total value of cash prizes offered in the agricultural section at the forthcoming show of the Waikato Winter Show Association reaches within fourteen pounds of two hundred. The numerous classes under the heading "home industries" are also liberally endowed. A loan of £IOO on personal guarantee has now been arranged with the Union Bank of Australia, Ltd., who are the bankers for the Borough Council. The money is required for the work on the roads in hand.

Occupiers oc houses are notified that they must, where a doctor is not called in, notify the Health Department if they have even suspicion of disease in a house, being of an infectious nature. Neglect to do so entails a severe penalty. The reserve ram, Godwin IV., beat 30 English exhibits. A message received by Dalgety and Co. states that Argentine breeders are delighted with the show. In the Palmerston North Supreme Court on Wednesday morning Joseph Pawelka pleaded guilty to all the charges of furniture stealing, which comprised the first of a series of offences before he escaped from gaol, also to a number of minor offences. Included in his plea of guilty were the following: Breaking and entering and theft of furniture from the premises of Hope Kidd, N. J. Metcalfe, J. B. Clarkson and Co., Mrs Jane Handley, J. Robbie, H. R. Cooper, Helen McKay, Ashurst railway station, J. Francis, of Longburn. In the charge of theft of goods from Millar and Giorgi, Pawelka pleaded not guilty, but upon a charge of arson at the same premises he pleaded guilty. He also admitted the theft of a bicycle and escaping from lawful custody. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of arson at the High School.
