The real discussion of the proposed German taxes is about to begin. That there will be a determined opposition to some of those taxes is evident. They arc condemned by the representatives of the commercial classes and by a committe of the Reichstag. Consequently, it may be feared that the Government will resort to the old device of "rattling the sabre" in the hope that patriotism will overcome dislike of the proposed taxes. —"Statist." A Northampton schoolmaster has received the following note from a pupil's mother : '"Honoured Sir,—Johnny can't come to school to-day. Yesterday another boy threw a stone into his eye, and he can't see out of it. Will you see into it ?"
