On Friday, May 27th, a farewell social was tendered to Mr and Mrs R. Drabble, who are leaving this district to take up farming on their property near Te Puke. As Mr Drabble was one of the "old hands" hero, and the couple were well liked, a very cordial "send-off" was the result. An energetic committee of twelve took the matter in hand, and it was due to their exertions that the dancing part of the entertainment was so successful. The Hall looked gay and festive in its lavish garb of ferns and flags, and the music—piano and violin—supplied by Mrs Harris and Mr Hogg, left nothing to be desired. Just before supper Mr J. W. Orr, on behalf of the residents. expressed regret at the departure of Mr and Mrs Drabble, and wished them every success in the future. He then handed Mrs Drabble a case of carvers, suitably engraved, and Mr Drabble, a handsome case of pipes. Mr Drabble returned thanks. Dancing was continued until 2 a.m., when "Auld Lang Syne" was sung, and all dispersed, having spent a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Mr and Mrs Drabble left on Tuesday for Te Puke. A general meeting of the tennis club is to be held to arrange for a social to suitably terminate the season. The probable date of the social will be June 10th. A children's concert, in connection with the local school, is to be held in the hall on June 24th, to raise funds for further improving the school grounds. An entirely new set of items is to be presented, and with teachers and scholars working hard, the entertainment should prove a great success.
