HOCKEY.
The existence of a ladies' hockey club in Te Kuiti has at last assumed concrete form. The members of the club and sonic gentlemen friends met on the ground which has been decided upon to play their matches this season, last week, and, headed by Mr Choal (surveyor) and Mr Sharman, laid out the ground which is siLuated somewhat to the oast of Mr 0. lletet's residence, and appears to he a splendid selection as it does not seem, I'nmi present observation at any rate, as if the water lies on the ground for any considerable period. It is to be hoped that the first practice will take plac ;i to-morrow afternoon, when all members and intending members are requested to be on the ground not; later than-3 p.m., as there is no time to be lost in getting into form for coming events. The members of the club have requested us (o kindly thank, on their behalf, Messrs ("heal and Sharman, and the other gentlemen present for their assistance in laying out the ground and other services rendered, and also Mr (!. Held; and Mr IVpeno Ek:'tone, through whom pormisaiqn was granted to play on the. ground without any fee. A special word of thanks is also paid to Mr Waitai for arranging with these gentlemen about the use of the ground. A pleasant afternoon was brought to a close with delightful afternoon tea, provided by the ladies, and served 'neath the willow trees.
