THE LACK OF HOUSES.

To the Editor. Sir,—lt was pleasingly refreshing to us as land agents when we. read your leader in Saturday's issue relative to the desirability of the establishment of a few houses of the nature to which you referred. It seems passing strange that pome live speculative individual does not devote a little attention to our township. Only to-day we had the unpleasant experience of sending away nine applicants for houses. The very best interests of Te Kuiti are being thwarted by the apathy of those who hold the money that might be so judicioulsy invested. It is gratify'ng to know that you have recognised what is actually the true state of affairs, and could you for one week sit in a land agent's and not an editorial chair you would feel that your leader was most meritorious. Several good people have had simply to go elsewhere because they could get no home. We trust that you will continue to emphasise the importance of instilling into the minds of those who have the possibility of being speculative, the distinct . advantage of such speculation. Day by day people leave the town and for no other reason than house accommodation. An influx of residents spells prosperity to the town, so kindly pursue your well directed initial leader. —We are, etc., YOUNG AND CO. Te Kuiti, May 18th.
